THE FORD TAUNUS
IN TC 2000 |
History...
1979 ran when
the Commission Argentina de Automovilismo Deportivo (CADAD) created a new
category that included all the models that dominated the automotive market of
the time: the Tourism Competition 2000. The first race was disputed at night in
the automobile race track of Buenos Aires, ran only five cars and gained Jose
Pontoriero with a Dodge 1500, escorted by the Peugeot 504 of "Cocho
Lopez", completed the group Solomita Angel with another Dodge 1500, Carlos
Crocco with a 125 Fiat Coupé, the champion of the TC, Juan Maria Traverso with
its Ford Taunus and Jorge Omar del Rio with another Dodge 1500. To these
names soon they added Rubén Luis Di Palma, Esteban Fernandino, Mario
Gayraud, Rubén Daray and many more. Thus, the stars of motoring occurred the
luxury to compete with flaming the Taunus, Renault 18 and "milqui".
That enchanted the public, who identified with pilots and marks. In 1986 Ford
and Renault they armed his equipment official, and the following year VW was
added. The category began to hold fast and to gain followers. With time, TC 2000
became the faithful reflection of which it occurred in the national automotive
market. Between 1986 and 1993, Ford and Renault as much had a bloody fight in
the track as in the street. The victories that obtained in TC 2000, were
translated in a greater number of sold cars. And thus we arrived at the 2000.
Nowadays the category this more than consolidated, the equipment invests million
dollars in technology to obtain more competitive cars. Soon from the Ford
Taunus, they came the Ford Sierra, the Ford Escort, in all its versions and they
are already developing the Ford Focus for the season of the 2001. From its
beginnings the mark of the oval is present in this category.

In Rio
Cuarto, in a great race Juan Maria Traverso it dominated first. The equipment of
Herceg, has been coming showing for four races the the two superiority of coupes
Taunus of the equipment formed by Traverso - Gayraud. Everything painted that
the Taunus de Herceg was unattainable, although in spite of the present dominion
of the Taunus, the category showed fight... (Rio Cuarto - Cordoba

The
"Chango" Fernandino repeated its triumph in Resistancia, returning
to be escorted by his coequiper Gayraud whom it followed Traverso, like finished
expression of the dominion of Ford. When the great moments of a car and a pilot
are coincident they produce results like which the "Chango" and his
coupé Taunus "by Herceg" completed in the automobile race track Oscar
Cabalén of Cordoba widely dominating. From the released one there was end rate,
twenty one cars in line... (Cordoba 22/07/84).

AFEFECTED TO PIGÜÉ |
The
race already had been back. Mario Gayraud finished crossing the thirty and five
returns and the green and white Taunus disappeared of the Vista of the majority,
covered by thousands of people whom they loved, at least, to touch something of
his spent plate...
"... Of
there in more, Mario began to turn with more faster tranquillity and, copying
all the ideal radii. He removed the record from return and one went taking off
of the rest that the only thing that could make era see move away it. In the
fourth turn he took 1s37/100 on Traverso, turning in the order of the minute
eleven seconds and moving away three or four tenth by return. Thus he made all
the race until arriving in the end with almost twenty-five seconds of difference
with respect to the second..." (Pigüé - Bs. As. 09/12/84).
